Rogaine Foam Review

in Hair

The experience of seeing a whole lot of hairs falling from your head and lying on your dresser or your basin can be very depressing. And looking into your mirror and seeing your hair thinning or receding can be very worrying.

If you’re experiencing this problem, you need to look around and find out what products are available to help you.  There are quite a number of treatments available, so before you decide which one to use, you should visit your medical practitioner, and also do some research of your own to find out which one would be most likely to suit you.

Your decision will need to be based on several things.

First of all, think about the type of lifestyle you have, and how long you can spend on your hair.  If you know you will not want to spend more than a few minutes each day, you need to look for a product that is quick and easy to use.  Otherwise, you probably won’t stick with the treatment in the long run.

Secondly, think about your hair type, and how you like to style it. If you don’t want your hair feeling sticky or oily, you need to check each product to find out what effect it will have on your hair’s appearance. You might like something that ‘styles’ your hair, or you might prefer your hair to feel as natural as possible.

Caring for your scalp is also an important part of dealing with hair loss. If you have a sensitive scalp, make sure you buy a product that won’t burn or irritate your skin. If possible, find a product that is sold in different strengths, so that you can choose the right one.

Because your hair is an important part of who you are, you probably don’t mind spending money on it, but even so, you don’t want to pay an unnecessarily high price for something that may not work. So find out what other users say about each product, and try to find something that is not too expensive and yet has been found to work well.

One hair regrowth product which you could consider is Rogaine.  The active ingredient in Rogaine is minoxidil, which has been proven to  stimulate the growth of new hair, and increase the size of hair follicles so that new hairs look thicker.

You can also choose from two different strengths, because Rogaine is available in both 5% and 2% strengths. The 5% product comes in the form of an easy to use foam in a topical aerosol containing a 4 month supply. Although this form is recommended for men, it can also be used by women, as long as they are not pregnant or nursing.

If you prefer the 2% strength, Rogaine offers two liquid solutions, one for men and another for women.

Before you decide on whether to use the 5% or the 2% strength, it’s worth checking out the results of each. Users who have tried both strengths report that the 5% foam produces better results. They also say that it is much quicker to apply, and makes styling your hair easier because it is not as oily as the liquid. It also has fewer side effects (such as causing the skin to flake).

However, the foam also has some disadvantages. Some users say that although it works better than the liquid, there is some wastage because the expanding foam spreads in the hair itself, and only a  very small amount actually reaches the scalp. On a bald spot, this would not be a problem because you could apply the foam directly to the skin, but if you have thinning hair, the liquid form of this product may be better than the foam. But if you really want to use the foam anyway, you could follow the advice of a user who seems to have solved the problem, and says  “I've found that spreading the hair apart and putting the same amount of foam right onto the scalp by pushing the applicator through the hair works well.”

There are also one or two disadvantages to using the 2% liquid solution. The men’s solution, which has an oil base, may make your hair oily. But if this is the case, you could try the women's solution which has an alcohol base and is therefore less oily.

Your age and your particular type of hair loss problem should also be taken into consideration. Rogaine is said to work best for people under 40 years of age who have begun to suffer hair loss fairly recently.  Also, it is supposed to be less effective for receding hairlines. However, some users have actually found that it does work on the front hairline, but that results just take a little longer.

Another complaint about the product is that it has a slightly unpleasant smell, but this doesn’t appear to be a major problem for most users, as it apparently goes away quite quickly.

And don’t risk disappointment! It’s important to be aware that Rogaine does not actually cure baldness, and that you need to persevere in using the product. If you don’t use the treatment regularly and consistently twice a day, it will have no effect. Also, if you stop treatment, you will lose most new hair within a few months.

And finally, you will need to have patience. Other users say that when you start using Rogaine, you may have to wait about 3 to 4 months before you see results, but you should not give up. It works, but it does take time.
